The Communities That Care (CTC) Committee is a community coalition dedicated to improving outcomes for children, youth, and families in the Wilson Area. Through collaboration between schools, health providers, nonprofits, faith organizations, and community leaders, the committee works to strengthen protective factors, reduce risk factors, and implement evidence-based prevention programs that help young people succeed.
The CTC Committee operates as a standing committee of the Wilson Area LINCS Coalition for Families and Youth, aligning prevention efforts with broader family support, community engagement, and youth development initiatives across the Wilson Area community.
The Wilson Area Communities That Care initiative was originally formed as a local prevention coalition using the internationally recognized Communities That Care framework. This model helps communities use data to identify the most significant challenges facing youth and then select proven strategies and programs to address them.
As the coalition grew, its work became closely connected with the broader mission of the Wilson Area LINCS Coalition for Families and Youth. Integrating the CTC effort into LINCS strengthened coordination between prevention programs, family supports, and community partnerships, ensuring that youth and families have access to the services and opportunities they need to thrive.
Today, the CTC Committee continues to guide prevention planning, youth programming, and community engagement efforts throughout the Wilson Area.
The success of the CTC Committee is made possible through collaboration with many dedicated community partners, including:
These organizations work together to coordinate services, share expertise, and implement strategies that support healthy youth development and stronger families in the Wilson Area community.
The Communities That Care Committee meets twice each month on the first Thursday and third Wednesday for one-hour working sessions. Meetings focus on reviewing community data, coordinating prevention initiatives, planning youth programs, and strengthening collaboration among community partners.
Participation is open to community members and organizations interested in supporting positive youth development in the Wilson Area.
Community collaboration is at the heart of the Communities That Care model. If your organization or group is interested in partnering with the coalition or participating in the CTC Committee, we welcome your involvement.
